The Joy of Soy When you desire superior quality, great customer care and a simply beautiful, wonderfully scented, hand-poured candle, choose Alpine Soy Candles ~ to keep or to give.... Alpine Soy Candles ~ More Than A Name We share our company headquarters with our home on 60 acres in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. We named our corner of the world, WindSong, after the high country wind that shears through the valley and around the mountains from the South. Passing through the cedar and pinion, the summer wind imparts a warm sweet scent across the land. We've dedicated our acreage as wildlife habitat and are registered with the National Wildlife Federation and Brooks Bird Club. We also maintain a contract with the USDA to preserve the riparian area created by Divide Creek. Our 'offices' are home to mountain lion, wild turkey, elk and deer, eagles and hawks, rabbits, chipmunks, beaver, tons of songbirds, and many more! There's even an interesting story about our resident bear on the "other favorite scents" page! We cherish our beautiful mountain surroundings and are delighted to offer you something very special from our home to yours..
Alpine Soy Candles - A
Superior Choice What separates an Alpine Soy Candle from other candles? Informed consumers know there are a number of factors which set some soy candle manufacturers apart from others. Those factors tend to be 1) the soy wax, 2) the scent fragrance 3) the colorant, and 4) the wick. About Our Soy Wax Please note: we use the term "soy wax" as a reference which is used widely within the industry to describe wax made from soybeans. Our use doesn't suggest a particular brand or process. We point this out to help avoid confusion as the industry wrangles over two sometimes conflicting interests: 1) describing something (in this case, wax) to the consumer, and 2) coping with manufacturers who trademark combinations of the limited selection of words involved, i.e. "soy" and "wax". Developed in the 1990's, soy wax has become the preferred choice of discerning candle buyers. Superior to petroleum-based wax, soy wax burns typically twice as long (due to a lower melting point), and reduces sooty residue by burning cleaner - provided the wick is properly trimmed. (For more candle burning tips please visit out Tips and Safety page). Alpine Soy Candles burn neatly too. With less mess and a more even burn (please see or Tips and Safety page) you won't be embarrassed by the unsightly globs of poorly melted wax clinging to the edges of your container which are so often associated with paraffin candles. Petroleum (paraffin) wax offers one thing that pure 100% soy wax doesn't - the ability to sculpt it and craft a free-standing pillar candle. But, there are so many reasons to avoid paraffin wax: for starters, the environment suffers from the extraction and combustion of petroleum products, and so does our health. Many people simply want to enjoy a cleaner environment and fresher smelling fragrance when burning a candle. Not all soy candles offer that. While there are other manufacturers like ourselves who value the natural superiority of 100% pure soy wax, settle for only straight answers before you buy. Creating and capitalizing on consumer confusion, some soy candle manufacturers tout questionably vague 'stabilization' processes, 'additives' or 'blends' and 'bases'. When you buy an Alpine Soy Candle, you can be assured you are purchasing a candle made of only 100% pure soy wax. The finest choice for scent preservation, easy clean-up and a long, cleaner burn. Though we miss the ability to create one of a kind wax sculptures from
traditional wax (the industry provides "blended" soy based products to
allow for this ability) we prefer to use only 100% pure, additive-free soy wax, and
believe our dedication is worth it as we happily settle for beautiful,
recyclable glass containers to display our candles in. Alpine Soy Candles triple scents each batch we make. "Triple scenting" is an industry term which is used to describe a wax-to-scent saturation ratio. Simply put, it assures you that your soy wax candle is fully saturated with scent, establishing a perfect balance between stable burning and powerful "throw". The 'throw' or 'cast' of a candle scent refers to how far reaching the scent is. The "notes" of a scent (referred to throughout our scent descriptions) indicate a scent's levels or complexity; i.e. bottom note - or base note; midnote and top note or notes. We actually gave up buying candles for a number of years because the only time we enjoyed the scent was after blowing the thing out -- and then we got a snootful of soot! Yuk. A favorite aspect of our soy candles is the surprising throw they are capable of casting. When we burn one of our candles, we can actually smell the fragrance throughout a room. And we think, aside from all the other benefits of a soy candle, enjoying the fragrance is what burning in a great candle is all about! For those who cannot tolerate fragrances at all, Alpine Soy Candles manufactures a fragrance free variety, Distinctly Soy, increasing the chances that more people can enjoy the pure and simple pleasures of a soy wax candle. We were delighted to discover that, even though the Distinctly Soy candle is not in any way scented, it possesses a wonderfully warm subtle scent attributable to the vegetable-based wax itself. The scent is a very very subtle, soft, almost milk and honey fragrance!
About Our Colorant One of the most important yet easily overlooked aspects of a candle is its wick. As long as it lights, few of us question the composition of the wick itself. Believe it or not, there are wicks commonly found on the market which contain lead, and even paper -- wholly unnecessary and even dangerous additions, in our estimation. Our customers can breath easier knowing Alpine Soy Candles uses only pure cotton wicking in every one of our candles. And while some manufactures will cut corners to increase profits, such as using paraffin-dipped wicks, all Alpine Soy Candles are made using only soy wax-dipped cotton wicks.
